Septic Services in Mount Dora, FL
Mount Dora sits higher than almost anywhere near it, on high ground 184 feet above sea level, and that elevation is the first thing we think about on a service call here. The town is small, historic, and full of houses older than modern septic code. We pump tanks a few blocks off Donnelly Street and out in the newer county subdivisions north of town. It is roughly 30 minutes from our Howey-in-the-Hills shop. Pumping $350, inspections $395, 24/7.
How a job goes in Mount Dora
- Call (352) 298-9384. You will describe the problem to the person who will be standing in your yard later, which shortens the conversation considerably.
- Mount Dora is around 30 minutes from Howey-in-the-Hills. We schedule tight downtown because parking a truck on those streets takes planning, and we would rather plan it than improvise it.
- On arrival we locate the tank and hand-dig the lid. In the historic streets that often means working around roots, pavers and irrigation nobody mapped.
- Tank open, we read the levels and check the outlet before pumping. On a sloped lot we also look downhill, because that is where a struggling field shows itself first.
- Full pump-out, lid reset, ground put back the way we found it. You get the same number we quoted and a straight read on how much life the system has left.

Who handles septic permitting in Mount Dora?
Lake County's health department. Anything that changes the system, a repair, a new field, a full replacement, goes through them, and we handle the filing and the inspection visit.
Does the elevation here protect my system?
It helps. Sitting on high ground at 184 feet gives your drainfield more dry soil beneath it than a lakeside lot has. Elevation does not fix an undersized or clogged field, though. It just delays the day you find out.
Can you get a truck into the historic district?
Yes, and we do it regularly. Narrow streets and old oaks mean we plan the approach and keep the hose run tidy rather than parking across somebody's lawn. Tell us about gates or overhead branches when you call.
My house is a 1920s bungalow. What should I expect in the tank?
Expect surprises. Downtown buildings here date from the early twentieth century, so the tank you have is probably not the original, and whatever replaced it was installed under whatever rules applied that decade. We open it, look, and tell you what is actually down there.
What we see in Mount Dora
The historic district
On the Register since 2009
The Mount Dora Historic District was added to the National Register of Historic Places on October 1, 2009. Its buildings are largely early twentieth century, and the houses around them were plumbed in eras nobody documents anymore.
Working these lots takes patience. Mature oaks, brick streets, tight setbacks and a tank that may sit under a driveway added in 1965. We dig carefully because there is no such thing as a spare inch of yard downtown.
The mount in Mount Dora
184 feet above sea level
The town was renamed in 1883 after Lake Dora, and the "Mount" reflects high ground 184 feet above sea level. That is a big change in height for this part of Florida, and it means drainfields up on the plateau have real vertical separation from groundwater.
The catch is what all that fall does to a lot. Systems installed on a slope can push wastewater downhill instead of dispersing it, and the first sign is a green stripe below the field rather than a wet spot on it.
We also see gravity lines running further and steeper here than in flat towns, which is fine until roots find a joint. Jetting or a section repair fixes what looks like a whole-system failure more often than people expect.
Beyond the city limits
16,341 residents in 2020
Mount Dora had 16,341 residents at the 2020 census. The city is compact, and a lot of what people call Mount Dora is unincorporated Lake County spreading north and east.
Those county addresses are where most of our tanks are: larger lots, private systems, no sewer line coming any time soon. They are also where an aging drainfield is genuinely the homeowner's problem to plan for, which is why we would rather inspect early than get called at midnight.
Old town, old oaks, old pipes.
